Baseball Rallies For Walk-Off Win Over Rutgers-Newark

WINTERHAVEN, Fla. – The Trinity College baseball team wrapped up their run at the RussMatt Invitational splitting a pair of games against University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Bantams move to 4-7 on the season after falling to UW-River Falls, 7-0, followed by a 9-8 walk-off win over Rutgers-Newark.
 
UW-River Falls 7, Trinity 0
The Hawks seized a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring on an error and an RBI single from Athmann. UWRF made it a 4-0 game in the second with an RBI single from Krebs, who then stole home on a double-steal. Santelman knocked a two-run ground-rule double in the third, and then Castillo notched the final run with a RBI sac fly in the sixth. Adam Niman, Andrew Gabriel, Andrew Park and Luis Saldivia tallied the lone hits for the Bantams in the game.
 
 
Trinity 9, Rutgers-Newark 8
The Scarlet grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning behind an RBI sac fly from Weinbel, followed by an RBI double from Bernardo. Weinbel tacked on an RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-0. The Scarlet pushed their lead to 8-0 in the eighth after scoring runs on errors and wild pitches.
 
The Bantams worked at the deficit in the bottom of the eighth as Brett Stone ripped an RBI triple to center field, followed by an RBI single from Aidan Stevenson to close the gap to 8-2. Stone stayed hot in the ninth, lacing an three-run triple to right field, putting Trinity within striking distance, 8-5. Stone came around to score on an RBI single from Peter Beisel, and then Stevenson and Beisel scored on a Rutgers error, evening score at 8-8. With the bases loaded, Luis Saldivia knocked a game-winning RBI single to send the Bantams to the 9-8 win.
 
Stone went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while Timothy Domizio added two hits and two runs scored. Brendan Grady earned the victory, punching out a pair of batters in a clean inning of relief.
 
The Bantams will be back in action when they welcome the University of St. Joseph to Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium for a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
