Trinity Softball Rallies in Game Two to Split Doubleheader with Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Trinity College softball team split its conference doubleheader against the Hamilton Continentals on Friday afternoon, opening New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. The Bantams now hold a 5-6 overall record and a 1-1 mark in conference play, while the Continentals move to 9-3, 1-1.

In the opening game, Hamilton's offense exploded for 12 runs, enforcing the run rule and securing a dominant 12-1 victory over Trinity. The Bantams' lone run came in the first inning when Emily Goddard drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing Taylor Mikolajczak home.

Trinity bounced back in game two, showing more firepower at the plate. In the second inning, Kellie Schroffner drove in Goddard with a single through the right side, putting the Bantams on the board. Hamilton however, owned a 4-1 lead by the bottom of the second.

The Bantams chipped away at the deficit with aggressive base running. With Abby Alper on first and Mikayla O'Brien on third, both runners executed a double steal—Alper taking second while O'Brien swiped home to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Trinity then put together a crucial fourth and fifth inning, erupting for six unanswered runs to seize an 8-5 advantage. Hannah Mullaney scored off of a wild pitch in the fourth inning, followed by a double to right center for an RBI in the fifth, 2 RBI singles from Taylor Mikolajczak one in the fourth and fifth inning. Makenna True added a two-RBI double down the right field line in the fifth, extending the lead.

In the circle, Annie Konieczka went the distance for the Bantams in game two, tossing all seven innings. She faced 38 batters, recording 13 flyouts, five groundouts, and two strikeouts. Konieczka allowed 12 hits, six runs, and issued three walks but held strong to secure the win.

Trinity continues its conference campaign at home with a doubleheader against Bates College on Sunday, March 30. Game one is set for 12 p.m., with game two scheduled for 2 p.m.
