Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Bowdoin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Trinity College Baseball team opened their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) season with a pair of defeats at Bowdoin College Friday afternoon. The Bantams were edged in the opener, 5-4, before falling in the nightcap, 21-9. Trinity moves to 6-10 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while the Polar Bears move to 14-2 and 2-0 in the NESCAC.
 
Game 1: Bowdoin 5, Trinity 4
After two scoreless innings, the Polar Bears grabbed a 4-0 lead behind RBI doubles from Will Bordes and Foley in the third and fourth inning, respectively. The Bantams rallied in the fifth as William Sawyer and Cole Mascolo knocked singles and Brett Stone reached on an error to load the bases with one out. Timmy Domizio evened the score with one swing of the bat, launching a grand slam to make it a 4-4 game.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Finn Cahill delivered an RBI single to put Bowdoin ahead 5-4 entering the seventh. Stone notched a one-out single and advanced to second, but was left stranded to secure the win for Bowdoin.
 
 
Game 2: Bowdoin 21, Trinity 9
Trailing 2-1 after the first inning, Stone tallied an RBI single in the second to trim the gap, but the Polar Bears tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the frame to make it a 4-1 game. The Bantams took the lead with a six-run third inning, ignited by a RBI single from Aidan Stern. After Domizio touched home on a passed ball, Andrew Park laced a two-run single to centerfield, putting Trinity ahead 5-4. Stone added an RBI single, followed by an RBI double from Cole Mascolo to extend the edge to 7-4.
 
Bowdoin plated eight straight runs, fueled by a six-run fifth inning, to rebuild a 12-7 lead after six innings. After leading off the seventh with a walk, Dylan Schnitzer came home as Park blasted a two-run home run over the right field fence to narrow the gap to 12-9. The Polar Bears pulled away with a nine-run seventh inning, paced by two-run doubles from Cahill and Foley to grab the 21-9 win.
 
Park led the way at the dish, going 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs and two runs scored. Stone drove in a pair of runs on two hits, while Mascolo went 2-of-3 with an RBI.
 
The Bantams will return to the diamond when they travel to Babson College (11-4) for a non-conference game on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
