HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College softball team dropped a NESCAC doubleheader to visiting Tufts University on Friday afternoon. With the losses, the Bantams fall to 8-17 overall and 2-10 in conference play, while the Jumbos improve to 16-12 overall and 10-2 in the NESCAC.

In the opener, Tufts erupted for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 9-0, enacting the run rule and securing a dominant shutout victory.

Game two saw the Jumbos once again take early control, scoring seven runs over the first four innings. The Bantams responded in the bottom of the fourth when Makenna True ripped an RBI double to left-center, plating Emily Goddard for Trinity's first run of the day. Isabella Calagna followed with a single up the middle to bring home Mikayla O'Brien, cutting the deficit to 7-2.

In the fifth, Abby Alper led off with a single and swiped two bases to reach third. Emily Goddard grounded to short, allowing Alper to score and pull the Bantams within four. Despite the rally, Tufts tacked on two more runs and held off Trinity's late push for a 9-3 win to sweep the day.

The Bantams continue their conference slate at home on Saturday, April 19, with a doubleheader against Amherst College. First pitch for game one is set for 12 p.m., followed by game two at 2 p.m.
