MEDFORD, Mass. – The third-ranked Trinity College Men's Rowing team grabbed six wins, including a pair of huge Varsity 8 victories, defeating second-ranked Tufts University, and fifth-ranked Coast Guard Academy to retain the Emerson Cup at the Shoemaker Boathouse Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bantams 1^st V8 squad featured Jack Lambros, Owen Meyers, Felix Goldmann, Jackson Moore, James McGarry, Quin Woods, Jack Carr, Wyatt Mills and coxswain Alenka Doyle. The team raced to a time of 5.31.71, defeating the Jumbos by six seconds, followed by nearly a four-second win over USCGA with a time of 5:58.4. The Trinity boats swept Coast Guard across four V8 races, while the 2V8 boat notched a five-second win over Tufts.
 
"Today was a solid day of development for the entire squad," said Trinity Head Coach Kevin McDermott. "Walking away with victories for the 1^st and 2^nd Varsity was positive, but more importantly, all five crews learned something about collegiate racing.  Facing the #2 ranked program was a stiff challenge, and Tufts proved that their speed and depth are formidable.  And defending the Emerson Cup against Coast Guard was an exciting and challenging honor for all involved. This was a great start to the spring racing season, but I was quick to remind the squad that we have a long way to go until the NIRC, NESCAC, and IRA Championships.  Thank you to everyone who braved the unfavorable weather to support the crews!" 
 
The Bantams will be back in action when they travel to the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on Saturday, April 12^th.
