Baseball Rally Comes Up Short Against Colby, 8-6, in NESCAC Semifinals

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Trinity College Baseball team fell to Colby College, 8-6, in the elimination game of the 2025 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Baseball Championship at Pickard Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams conclude the 2025 season with a 20-17 record, while the Mules improve to 23-13 overall.

Leading 1-0 in the third inning, Colby padded their advantage behind RBI singles from Corey Aubuchon and D. Cullinane, and a sac fly from Hillenberg to possess a 4-0 lead. The Bantams began to chip away at the deficit with an RBI sac fly from Timothy Domizio in the fourth to make it a 4-1 game.

Ryan Grace expanded the Mules lead with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the sixth, but Trinity responded with an RBI double from Aidan Stevenson to set the score at 6-2. The Bantams continued to work at the gap in the seventh with an RBI double from Bernstein and a sac fly from Schnitzer to narrow the lead to 6-4.

Colby added a pair of runs in the eighth on RBI doubles from Myles Gythfeldt and Clint Flippo to rebuild an 8-4 lead. Trinity looked to rally in the ninth as Schnitzer belted a solo home run to right field, followed by an RBI single from Aidan Stern, but Mules reliever G. Levin forced back-to-back fly outs to secure the win for Colby.

Tyler Bernstein led the Bantams at the dish, going 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Stern went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while Schnitzer drove in a pair of runs. Drew McGowen (3-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits, while Brendan Grady struck out five and surrendered four runs in five innings of relief work.
