Women's Rowing Claims Trudy Emerson Cup at NERC Championships

| By:
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Trinity College Women's Rowing team had four boats qualify for the Grand Final at the 2025 New England Rowing Championships at Lake Quinsigamond Saturday afternoon. The Bantams 1V8 boat finished fourth overall, while the races for the 2V8, 3V8 and 4V8 were canceled due to high winds.

Trinity finished fourth in the Grand Final of the 1V8 race, posting a time of 8:16.433. MIT won the race with a time of 7:53.948, followed by Tufts (7:56.838), and Williams (8:11.535). The Bantams finished nearly four seconds ahead of Wesleyan (8:20.135) to earn their first Trudy Emerson Cup in 10 years.

"In the morning, we had three boats all have great races in their heats," said Trinity Head Coach Peter Graves. "The women's first varsity eight (1V) finished second in their heat in a time of 7:05, that qualified them directly for the Grand Final in the afternoon. The 2v had the fastest time out of all 3 heats heading into the Grand Final in the afternoon.   The Third Varsity had an epic last 500m to move through Smith and finish in 2nd place, qualifying directly for the Final.  With the 4v having a 7 boat final in the afternoon, that was the first time that we've had all boats qualify for the Grand Finals at New England's in a long time. Certainly a great team effort! In the afternoon, the wind had picked up to a level that made it not only tough to row in but also tough to hold the regatta in.  Boats were having trouble getting aligned at the start and the regatta became more and more delayed due to the increasing wind.  The women's final started but it became clear that it was going to be a very challenging race due to conditions, waves splashing over the gunwhales and oars hitting the waves were seen all the way down there course.   The Trinity Women had a very gutsy race from all the way out in Lane 6 and managed to row through Wesleyan in the 2nd half of the race to finish in 4th place, which was a good accomplishment for the team. Finishing ahead of Wesleyan was significant since we contest the "Trudy Emerson Cup" with Wesleyan each year, and the team that places highest in the varsity 8 at New England's wins the cup. The Trinity Women brought home the cup for the first time in 10 years!"

The Bantams will be back on the water for the NIRC/NESCAC Championship at Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, May 11.
