Four Trinity Women’s Squash Players Showcase Their Strength at CSA Singles Tournament

| By:

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's squash program was represented by four Bantams at the College Squash Association (CSA) Singles Tournament, hosted at the FiDi Squash Club in New York, N.Y. Trinity seniors Hannah Chukwu and Kara Lincou, along with first-years Thanusaa Uthrian and Doyce Lee, competed for the Bantams, with Lee claiming hardware after capturing the Pool E title.

What Happened

  • In her debut CSA Singles Tournament appearance, Uthrian led the Bantams with an impressive run to the quarterfinals. She opened with a 3–0 sweep over Dickinson's Kathryn Herring (11–9, 11–9, 11–5) in the Round of 64, followed by a 3–1 victory against Yale's Elise Kang in the Round of 32 (10–12, 11–3, 11–9, 11–8). In the Round of 16, Uthrian prevailed in a five-set thriller against Yee Xin Ying (7–11, 11–9, 11–9, 6–11, 11–4) before bowing out in the quarterfinals to Yale's Heng Wai Wong in four sets.

  • Chukwu opened her tournament campaign with a Round of 64 sweep over Colby's Abhisheka David (11–3, 11–3, 11–6) before battling to a 3–1 win against Harvard's Ocean Ma in the Round of 32 (11–6, 6–11, 11–8, 11–9). In the Round of 16, Chukwu met a familiar opponent in Princeton's Sarah Nghiem — a matchup often seen during the regular season in the same ladder position. Chukwu ultimately fell 3–1 (7–11, 8–11, 11–6, 8–11), concluding her run.

  • Lincou also opened strong, sweeping Yale's Eedha Mehta in the Round of 64 (11–6, 11–3, 11–9). She advanced to face Stanford's Mariana Narvaez Dardon — an opponent she swept earlier in the season. Dardon claimed the first set 11–9, but Lincou responded with a commanding reverse sweep, holding Dardon to six points or fewer in each of the final three sets to secure her spot in the Round of 16. There, Lincou fell in four sets to Harvard's Caroline Fouts (8–11, 12–10, 11–5, 11–7).

  • Lee began the tournament with a four–game victory over Tufts' Maria Arseniev, rallying after dropping the second set to advance (scores not listed). Lee was then bounced from the main draw in a four–set Round of 32 decision against Yale's Heng Wai Wong, shifting to the Pool E consolation bracket.

  • In Pool E play, Lee climbed her way to a championship finish. She opened with a 3–1 win over Aishwarya Khubchandani (13–11, 5–11, 11–7, 14–12), then swept Princeton's Caroline Eielson in the semifinals (11–9, 11–6, 11–6). In the Pool E final, UPenn's Alexandra Stoddard jumped out to a 2–0 lead (11–4, 14–12), but Lee surged back with a resilient reverse sweep to claim the title (7–11, 6–11, 11–7, 11–6, 11–3), securing the Bantams' hardware.

"I'm incredibly proud of how all four of our players performed this weekend. They showed up, supported one another, and gave their best. With two freshmen and two senior captains, it was inspiring to see the leadership and camaraderie on and off the court. Thanussa pulled off a five-game upset over an opponent she'd lost to earlier this season to reach the quarterfinals, which will make her a first team All-American. We even made it through the NYC snowstorm. Super proud of them all." Coach Lauren Patrizio
