HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team returned to Robin L. Sheppard Field Saturday morning, hosting the No. 11 nationally ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup. Despite a strong defensive effort and a late offensive push, the Bantams fell to the Polar Bears in a 2-0 final. Trinity moves to 5-7 overall and 1-7 in conference play, while Bowdoin improves to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the NESCAC.
How It Happened
- The Polar Bears applied pressure early, registering six shots and three penalty corners in the opening quarter. Trinity goalkeeper Sydney Korkosz made four saves before Bowdoin's Hannah Balmelli found the back of the cage off an assist from Maddie Mrva in the 11th minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
- Bowdoin continued its offensive pressure in the second quarter, adding six shots, but Korkosz turned away three attempts to keep the Bantams within one. Trinity responded with a pair of penalty corners in the 25th minute, where Tatum Stickney registered two shots, including an attempt that was turned away by a defensive save from Mrva.
- The Bantams tightened up defensively in the third quarter, holding the Polar Bears without a shot or penalty corner. Fiona Murphy registered Trinity's lone shot of the quarter following a penalty corner in the 39th minute, but her attempt was blocked.
- Bowdoin extended its lead in the fourth quarter as Ella Davies scored off a penalty corner opportunity in the 50th minute, assisted by Charlotte Crawford.
- Trinity continued to battle in the final minutes, outshooting Bowdoin 4-1 in the fourth quarter while earning three penalty corners. Aly Janssen placed a shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the Polar Bears held on to secure the 2-0 victory.
