Men's Soccer Blanked by Wesleyan, 3-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Soccer team fell to visiting Wesleyan University, 3-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at the Trinity Soccer Field Tuesday night. The Bantams dip to 6-6-1 on the season, and 2-5-1 in the NESCAC, while the Cardinals improve to 7-3-3 and 3-3-2 in conference.

What Happened:
  • In the 15th minute of play, the Cardinals looked to break the scoreless tie as John SennMcNally played a cross to the front of the net where Niall Fergus laid out for the header, but the shot rang off the crossbar.
  • With 22:59 remaining in the first half, Wesleyan struck as Fergus lofted the ball to the goalbox, where Will Short played a short pass to Dylan Clack for the right-footed finish past the reach of Bantams keeper Jake Davis, giving the Cardinals the 1-0 lead.
  • In the 44th minute, Wesleyan potted an insurance tally as SennMcNally lifted a cross to far post, where Nnamdi Emehelu headed a pass to Felipe Una for a close-range goal, extending the lead to 2-0 at the break.
  • The Bantams looked to chip away at the gap but a late attempt from Marco Bannon was blocked, and Nadeem Rizk was denied at close-range by Wesleyan keeper Simon Rebstock.
  • With less than eight minutes to play, Short launched a pass to the front of the net, where Clack found space in front of the net and headed home the finish to send Wesleyan to the 3-0 lead.
