HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to visiting Amherst College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at the Trinity College Soccer Field Tuesday night. The Bantams move to 6-6-3, and 3-6-1 in conference, while the Mammoths finish at 7-8, and 2-8 in the NESCAC.
What Happened:
- In the 13th minute of play, the Mammoths netted the first goal of the game as Caroline Coletti played a short pass to Becca Button just outside the box, and Button curled a long shot into the upper 90, just beyond the reach of Bantams keeper Zoe Tamborello, staking Amherst to the 1-0 lead.
- With less than 20 minutes remaining in the first half, Katerina Davis spun behind a pair of Bantam defenders and launched a long pass to Coletti, who had a step on the Trinity defensive line and tucked a shot past Tamborello one-on-one, extending the Amherst lead to 2-0.
- The Bantams looked to get on the board late in the first half with shots from Sophia Simmons and Kyra Charette, but Amherst keeper Corina Bellermann stopped both attempts to maintain a 2-0 lead at the break.
- Less than five minutes into the second half, Amherst potted an insurance tally as Katie Pedersen fired a free kick at Tamborello, but Tamborello was unable to secure the low shot, and Abigail Danso knocked in the rebound to give the Mammoths a 3-0 advantage.
