#4 Men's Basketball Clobbers Colby, 98-75

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fourth-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team grabbed a 98-75 victory over visiting Colby College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Ray Oosting Gymnasium Friday night. The Bantams rise to 21-2 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while the Mules slide to 16-7 and 4-5 on the season.
 
What Happened:
  • Tied 9-9 at the 12:57 mark of the first half, the Bantams seized control with a 16-4 run over the next three minutes, powered by 12 points from Jared Berry, to hold a 25-13 advantage.
  • After a jumper from Dan Civello trimmed the gap to 25-18, Trinity used six scorers to propel a 15-2 run to rebuild a 40-20 lead with 4:45 left in the first half. The Bantams closed the first half with a 49-30 advantage after buckets from Berry, Paul Ippolito and Jarrel Okorougo.
  • The Mules used a pair of triples from Sam Hinman to close the gap to 51-36, Trinity responded with a 13-5 run, featuring three-pointers from Daivd Ayles, Drew Lazarre and Henry Vetter, to possess a 64-41 lead with 14:32 to play.
  • A five-point spurt from Berry set the score at 71-46, and then back-to-back threes from Lazarre escorted the lead to 77-57 with 7:09 on the clock. Okorougo added eight points down the stretch, along with four-point efforts from Tristan Davis and Berry to close out the 98-75 win.

  • The Bantams connected on 53% (35-of-66) from the field, including 40% (8-of-20) from three-point, and 74.1% (20-of-27) from the foul line.
  • The Mules shot 40% (24-of-48) from the floor, 33.3% (7-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 64.5% (20-of-31) from the free throw stripe.

  • Berry powered the Bantams offense with a career-high 23 points, shooting 8-of-10 for the field, with four rebounds.
  • Okorougo posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Lazarre netted 13 points, five steals, four rebounds, and four assists.
  • Vetter registered 11 points with a game-high six assists, with Davis and Ayles added nine points apiece.
  • Civello led the Mules with a game-high 27 points, converting 10-of-14 from the floor, with two rebounds and two blocks.
  • Theo Pow recorded 13 points with six rebounds and four assists, while Mason Dobie tallied nine points and three rebounds off the bench.
