BERMINGHAM, AL. - Trinity College Women's Indoor Track and Field rookie, Olivia Carney returns to Hartford, Connecticut with All-American nods after an impressive display on the track for the Bantams.
Carney closed her inaugural indoor season with a personal record time, resetting her own program record of 24.81 with a sprint of 24.74 in the 200m dash on the National stage Friday evening. This performance granted her a 13th place out of 20 runners in the nation and Second Team All-America honors.
Carney remains the fastest 200m runner in the Mideast Region and the fastest first-year short sprinter in the country.
In the prelims held on Friday evening (5:15PM) Carney was positioned in lane 4, with two seniors in lane 5 (Sydney Radigan, Calvin College) and 6 (Isabel Peterson, University of Wis. Platteville) who both went on to break the national record in that heat, dipping below 23.90 seconds, a time that hadn't been touched in 8 years. The prior record was set by Wadeline Jonathas (UMass Boston) at the same Birmingham Crossplex during the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship. With the speed and pressure to keep pace with veteran collegiate runners, Carney was pushed past her limit in the run but benefited with a new personal record and a program record.
"We are proud of how Liv competed on the national stage during her first indoor season. She represented her team and Trinity College well, and came home with many lessons learned and All America honors!" - Head Coach John Michael Mason
Within the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Carney finished with the third best time (24.74)
