Men's Lacrosse Dumps Clarkson, 14-8

HARTFORD, Conn –– The Trinity College Men's Lacrosse Team picked up a much-needed win on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Clarkson University 14-8. The Bantams move to 3-2 while Clarkson picks up their first loss at 5-1. 

Game Recap 

1st Quarter 

  • The Golden Knights struck first on a man-up opportunity, but the Bantams answered on the ensuing possession as Miley Harvey ripped a laser running down the right alley.  

  • Harvey came back and showed off the left hand on the opposite side of the field a minute later to put the Bantams up 2-1. 

  • Off a save from Davis Ike the Bantams got out in transition. five quick passes led to a pretty Jay Ottomanelli goal. 

  • Clarkson was able to piece together a nice possession and scored off a drive and cut to end the quarter down 3-2. 

2nd Quarter 

  • Kyle Gallagher scooped up a ground ball off the faceoff and ran down the field uncontested to tie the game 10 seconds into the quarter. 

  • After falling behind 4-3, Page set-up a creeping Ethan Cobb on the crease for a diving finish. Page would follow up with a shot of his own to take back the lead 5-4. 

  • Makin Blalock flipped the game stopping the Clarkson break before running down the field to find Ottomanelli for his second goal.  

  • The Knights got it within one off a loose ball in front of the cage, but the Bantams were able to score two in the final 15 seconds, Colin Sullivan scored from deep Will Lavallee won the faceoff and hit Ottomanelli for the 8-5 halftime lead.  

3rd Quarter 

  • Trinity took control of the game scoring three unanswered goals to open the second half.  

  • Sullivan started the barrage, freeing up his hands in the left slot off the swing from Ben WongJake Connors saw the chance for a shot of his own and went five-hole then Conley Bohan strung out his defender in isolation and blew by him for another. 

  • Clarkson was able to get one back off a broken transition coverage, but Trinity remained ahead 11-6 headed into the final frame.  

4th Quarter 

  • Trinity took advantage of the man-up as Harvey painted the top shelf off another assist from Bo Page.  

  • Ike delivered with a man-down save that ignited a Trinity break, Finn O'Callaghan drew his defender before dropping it down to Ottomanelli for his fourth.  

  • Jeb Slimbaugh finished the game with a save and freshman Billy Gerne added insurance to cap off a 14-8 victory.  

Notable Performances 

  • Lavallee was 14-18 on faceoffs with 6 ground balls.  

  • Points: Ottomanelli- 4g, 1a Harvey- 3g  Sullivan- 2g, 1a Page- 1g, 3a 

  • Defense: McAloon- 5ct, 2gb Barford- 3ct, 3gb 

  • Ike finished with 11 saves, 6 ground balls, and the win. 

Next Up 

Trinity will turn around and face Norwich University on the road tomorrow at 4pm. Norwich sits at 2-3 on the year coming off a 21-4 win over Albertus Magnus. This is Bantams first all-time matchup with the Cadets.
