Baseball Wraps Florida Trip With Split

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Trinity College Baseball team closed out their trip South with a victory over Edgewood University before falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater in their final game of the run. The Bantams move to 8-2 on the season.
 
What Happened (vs. Edgewood):
  • Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, the Bantams grabbed the lead behind an RBI triple from Cole Mascolo and an RBI single from Tyler Bernstein. The Eagles answered in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run from Aidan Kammer to tie the score at 2-2.
  • Trinity regained the lead with an RBI sac fly from Luis Saldivia in the fourth, and a solo homer from Berstein in the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage.
  • The Bantams tacked on three runs in the sixth on runs scoring knocks from Pete Beisel, Saldivia and Mascolo to expand the gap to 7-2.
  • The lead grew to 9-3 as William Sawyer and Timmy Domizio belted RBI doubles to left field. The Bantams plated their final run of the contest on an RBI groundout from Bernstein en route to the 10-6 final
 
Inside the Boxscore (vs. Edgewood):
  • The Bantams cranked out ten runs on 12 hits, while the Eagles produced six runs on six hits.
  • The Bantams were active on the basepaths, racking up seven stolen bases, including two from Aidan Stern and Domizio.
  • Bernstein drove in three runs on two hits, while Saldivia and Mascolo plated two runs apiece. Mascolo knocked two extra-base hits and Domizio posted three hits with two RBIs and a run scored.
  • Andrew Oppenheimer made his first start on the mound, earning the win in five innings of work, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with six punchouts.
 
What Happened (vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater):
  • The Warhawks struck first, driving in four runs in the first inning. Dylan Schnitzer added an RBI groundout in the first, along with an RBI double from Saldivia in the second inning to trim the gap to 6-2.
  • Wisconsin-Whitewater added three runs in the third to expand the gap to 9-2. Aidan Stevenson delivered an RBI single in the fourth. The Warhawks continued to swing, knocking in four runs in the fifth and two in the seventh to take the 15-3 win.
 
Inside the Boxscore (vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater):
  • The Bantams scored three runs on six hits, while the Warkhawks plated 15 runs on 14 hits.
  • Stevenson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Saldivia, Domizio, Will Sawyer and Andrew Park each added hits.
  • Drew McGowan (2-1) took the loss, allowing nine runs on 10 hits with a trio of strikeouts.

  • The Bantams will be back on the diamond when they travel to the University of Saint Joseph for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, March 22 at Noon.
