HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College men's tennis team opened its 2026 campaign with a decisive 6-1 victory over host Springfield College on Sunday afternoon in Manchester, Conn. With the win, the Bantams improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Pride fall to 3-2 overall.
Trinity seized early momentum by capturing two of three doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The duos of Brandon Felcher and John Pope, along with Maxim Kauffman and Andrew Nelson, each secured convincing 6-3 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, to give the Bantams the doubles point.
In singles competition, Trinity controlled the majority of the lineup, claiming five of six matches. Competing in the No. 4, 5, and 6 positions, Maxim Golubenko, Felcher, and Thompson Brown each earned straight-set victories to anchor the effort.
At the top of the order, Pope (No. 2) and Nelson (No. 3) rebounded after dropping their opening sets. Both battled back to force decisive third-set super tiebreakers, with each prevailing 10-5 to secure the points and save the team victory for the Bantams.
