NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Semifinal Preview

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The top-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team will square off with fifth-ranked University of Mary Washington in the Semifinals of the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, March 21 at 8:00 p.m.
 
Bantam Bytes:
  • The Bantams are making their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament Semifinal, and fourth overall for the program.
  • Trinity edged out NESCAC foe Tufts University, 69-66, in the Quarterfinals to earn a spot in the Semifinal tilt.
  • The Bantams checked in at the top of the latest D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Top 25 poll for the ninth time this season.
  • Trinity holds a 29-2 record, achieving the third-most wins in a season in program history, sitting one shy of matching the program high of 30 wins (2023-24, 2024-25).
  • The Bantams are one of the stingiest defenses in the Nation, ranking third in scoring defense (59.4) and fourth in field goal defense with opponents shooting just 37.4% from the field.
  • During their tourney run, Trinity is producing 75.5 points per game while shooting 43.7% from the floor and just 23.5% from three-point range, including a season-low 1-for-11 in the Quarterfinal win over Tufts.
  • Henry Vetter is pacing the Bantams offense over the last four games, averaging 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 53.8% from the field.
  • Jarrel Okorougo has added 13.7 points and 3.0 rebounds over the last three contests.
  • Jared Berry is delivering 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds off the bench, while Drew Lazarre is tallying 10.5 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds during the NCAA Tournament.
  • Tristan Davis is chipping in 7.3 points and 6.3 rebounds, and David Ayles has totaled a team-high 14 assists with 16 points over the last four games.
 
Scouting the Eagles:
  • Mary Washington is making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance, and their third in the last four years.
  • The Eagles are making their first appearance in the NCAA Semifinal after defeating sixth-ranked UChicago, 81-73, in the Quarterfinals.
  • Mary Washington has won 10 straight games to boost their season mark to 28-3, a new program-high for wins in a season.
  • The Eagles were ranked fifth in the Country in the latest D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Top 25 poll.
  • Nationally, the Eagles rank in the Top 25 in scoring margin (sixth, 15.6), three-point field goal percentage (seventh, .376), field goal percentage defense (14th, .391), scoring defense (17th, 64.7), turnover margin (18th, 5.0), and field goal percentage (24th, .479).
  • Mary Washington has been careful with the ball, averaging 9.5 turnovers per game, ninth-lowest rate in the country.
  • Sophomore Kye Robinson earned NABC All-American, D3hoops.com All-Region and Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors after leading the Eagles with 24.8 points per game.
  • Robinson ranks third in the Nation in total points (743), eighth in field goals made (245), and tenth in scoring (24.8) and field goal attempts (480). Robinson is shooting 50.7% from the field, 37.9% from three-point range while adding 6.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
  • Jay Randall led the Eagles with a team-high 22 points in the victory over UChicago. Randall is connecting on a team-high 58% from the field, averaging 12.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
  • Ulysses Young is adding 10.3 points per game, while Jadon Burgess is converting a team-high 40.5% from long-range with 9.7 points a game.
 
History:
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between Trinity and Mary Washington.
  • This season, the teams have played three common opponents: Yeshiva, Worcester State and Amherst. Both teams went 3-0 against the common opponents.
  • Against Yeshiva: Trinity 76-52, Mary Washington 90-89 (2OT)
  • Against Worcester State: Trinity 100-49, Mary Washington 86-55
  • Against Amherst: Trinity 75-67, Mary Washington 81-64
