#14 Women's Lacrosse Top #5 Amherst College in Regular Season Finale

HARTFORD, Conn–– The #12th ranked Trinity College Women's Lacrosse Team defeated the #5 ranked Amherst College Mammoths Wednesday Night in the regular season finale. A dominant first half propelled the Bantams to the upset as they clinched home field for the NESCAC quarterfinal. Trinity finishes the regular season 11-4 (7-3 NESCAC) while Amherst finishes 12-3 (7-3 NESCAC).  

Game Recap 

1st Quarter 

  • Amherst answered before Denious threw another dime, this time to Sarah Marvin who jumped and spun in the air for the acrobatic score. 

  • Emily Ambrozy came away with multiple takeaways to limit the Amherst offense. 

2nd Quarter 

  • Lesko and Troy connected for another goal to push the advantage to 4-1. 

  • The Amherst duo of Kate Becker and Bridget Finley linked up to end the drought, but Kaeley Zito came right back with two consecutive free position goals to make it 6-2. 

  • Zito decided to complete the hattrick early as she dodged off a feed from Marvin for a 7-2 halftime lead. 

3rd Quarter 

  • After a Trinity goal was called back by the officials, Amherst was able to find the back of the net to cut into the lead. 

  • The Bantams had some opportunities including a free position but were unable to capitalize, maintaining the 7-3 lead going into the fourth.  

4th Quarter 

  • Denious put the Bantams in control 8-3 with a free position goal 

  • Amherst cut it to four with just over seven minutes remaining, but Denious hit Lesko inside to steady the lead at 9-4. 

  • The Mammoths continued to apply pressure scoring two quick ones to keep the game alive but Alison MacDougall came away with a huge save to kill the momentum. 

  • Denious finished off an impressive game skating downhill for a goal to seal the 10-7 Trinity victory.  

Notable Performances 

Grace Denious paced the Trinity offense with five points (3g, 2a) while Alex Lesko (1g, 2a) and Kaeley Zito (3g) both added three of their own. Emily Ambrozy (5ct, 4gb) was everywhere on defense alongside Sam Hark (5ct) and Caitlin Hicks (2ct, 2gb). Ali MacDougall finished with 8 saves in net for the win.  

Next Up 

The Bantams will rematch the Mammoths this Saturday in the NESCAC quarterfinal at 12 ET. Trinity will host a NESCAC playoff game for the first time since 2017 as the #4 seed, Amherst received the #5 seed.
