HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team earned the second seed in the East Division and will face West Division fourth-seed Wesleyan University in the opening round of the 2026 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium this weekend.
Bantam Bytes:
- The Bantams posted a 24-10 record, their most wins in a season since the 2019 season, with an 8-4 mark in conference play to claim the second-seed in the East Division.
- Trinity is making their XX straight appearance in the NESCAC Championship Tournament after advancing to Championship Weekend last season.
- The Bantams boast one of the top offenses in the conference, pacing the league in doubles (79), triples (14), home runs (31), total bases (554), slugging percentage (.491) and stolen bases (109).
- Trinity ranks second in runs scored (290), hits (354), runs batted in (260) and on-base percentage (.417), while sitting third in batting average and fourth in fielding percentage (.961).
- Tyler Bernstein is tied with teammate Timothy Domizio for the league-lead in home runs (8), while ranking third in runs (3(), runs batted in (34) and stolen bases (25), fourth in total bases (73), fifth in hits (45), sixth in slugging percentage (.589) and eighth in OPS (1.045). Bernstein posted a XX fielding percentage with 80 assists, fourth-most in the conference.
- Domizio is having a breakout sophomore campaign, sitting in the top ten in ten offensive categories including total bases (2nd, 81), slugging percentage (2nd, .638), OPS (6th, 1.054), runs (6th, 37), doubles (6th, 11), runs batted in (7th, 32), triples (8th, 2), stolen bases (9th, 14) and hits (10th, 42).
- Aidan Stern leads the NESCAC in on-base percentage (.536), while ranking fifth in OPS (1.095), sixth in doubles (11), seventh in batting average (.382), eighth in triples (2) and tenth in runs (32) and slugging percentage (.559). Behind the plate, Stern has caught nine runners attempting to steal, third-most in the league.
- Andrew Park delivered career-highs in at-bats (123), runs (28), hits (37), triples (3), home runs (7), runs batted in (32), slugging percentage (.553) and stolen bases (8).
- On the hill, the Bantams pitching staff owns a 5.51 earned run average with a 1.60 WHIP across 34 games. Trinity ranks fourth in opponent batting average, limited foes to a .266 mark at the plate.
- Tyler Fahey leads the team with 20 appearances and a 3.15 ERA, claiming five victories in relief with a league-leading five saves. Opponents are batting .226 against Fahey, the sixth-lowest mark in the NESCAC.
- Joe Capano holds a 3-1 record with a 4.53 ERA in 49.2 innings across nine starts, tallying a team-high 41 strikeouts, sixth-most in conference.
- Andrew Oppenheimer collected six victories with a 4.14 ERA and 19 strikeouts in his debut season, while Drew McGowan ranks seventh in wins (4) and ninth in innings pitched (44.0) with 21 strikeouts.
Scouting the Cardinals
- Wesleyan received the fourth seed in the West Division after registering a 12-21 record with a 6-6 mark in the NESCAC.
- Offensively, the Cardinals rank in the bottom half of the league across the board, sitting sixth in on-base percentage (.400) and doubles (59), seventh in home runs (11), runs (202), and runs batted in (174), and eighth in batting average (.277), hits (287), triples (6), total bases (391) and slugging percentage (.378).
- Wesleyan has struggled in the field, recording a league-high 63 errors with a .943 fielding percentage.
- James Marsden leads the NESCAC in doubles (16) while ranking seventh in RBIs (69), eighth in triples (2), ninth in slugging percentage (.566) and tenth in home runs (3).
- Jake Acker holds team-highs .341 batting average and on-base percentage (.481) with 28 hits, 24 runs scored and 17 RBIs.
- William Moore has driven in a team-high 24 runs on 28 hits with a .298 batting average, Oliver Kwan owns a .284 average with 23 hits, and Tucker DeWolf has added 27 hits and 24 runs scored.
- The Cardinals pitching staff ranks fifth in strikeouts (203), ninth in ERA (7.02) and tenth in opponent batting average (.312).
- Sheamus Kelly anchors the Wesleyan rotation, owning a 4-3 record with a 4.71 ERA and a team-high 35 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched. Kelly posted two complete games with opponents batting .269 against.
- Cole Perkin made seven starts with an 8.60 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, and Oliver Dmochowski has a 4.43 ERA in 22.1 innings across six starts with 16 strikeouts.
History
- All-time, the Bantams own a 128-125-5 record against the Cardinals, dating back to their first meeting in 1870.
- The two sides last met during the 2024 season with Wesleyan grabbing a 10-6 victory in seven innings in Middletown. Since 2017, Trinity has won five of eight games versus the Cardinals.
