Baseball Falls to Russell Sage In NCAA Regionals

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The third-seed Trinity College Bantams Baseball team's season came to a close as the Bantams suffered a 7-4 defeat to host 12th-ranked Russell Sage College at Central Park Saturday afternoon. The Bantams wrap their campaign with a 27-15 record.
 
What Happened:
  • The Gators took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with RBI knocks from Evan Grimes and Jayden Kennedy. Trinity rallied in the top of the third as the first three batters reached base. Tyler Bernstein plated Cole Mascolo with an RBI groundout, followed by a run-scoring single from Aidan Stern to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Russell Sage regained the lead in the home half of the fourth behind a two-run home run from Collin Casey. The Gators added two runs in the sixth on RBI hits from Joseph Karpierz and Kennedy, extending the lead to 6-2.
  • Trinity chipped away in the seventh as Aidan Stern belted a two-run shot over the right field fence, setting the score at 6-4. Kennedy delivered an insurance in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot to help send Russell Sage to the 7-4 victory.
 
Inside the Boxscore:
  • The Bantams notched four runs on eight hits with an error, while the Gators scored seven runs on nine hits with a error.
  • Bernstein and Stern led the way with two hits and a run each, while Stern drove in three runs and Bernstein plated one run.
  • Mascolo reached base twice and Luis Saldivia went 1-for-4 with a double.
  • Trinity starter Drew McGowan (4-7) surrendered six runs on six hits with four strikeouts in the loss. Andrew Gabriel allowed one run on three hits in three innings of relief.
