MEDFORD, Mass. – The Trinity College field hockey team opened its 2026 season Saturday night with a 5-1 loss to No. 1 nationally ranked and defending NCAA Division III champion Tufts University (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) at Ounjian Field. The Bantams battled against the nation's top-ranked team throughout the contest before scoring in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
How it Happened:
- Tufts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the opening 5:22. Trinity held the Jumbos scoreless throughout the second quarter, with sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Korkosz making seven saves in the period to keep the Bantams within striking distance heading into halftime.
- The Jumbos added two goals in the third quarter to extend their lead to 4-0 before adding another in the fourth.
- Trinity responded with just over three minutes remaining, as Riley Harrington found the back of the cage off an assist from Sophie Watson to put the Bantams on the scoreboard. Harrington finished the night with four shots, including two on goal.
- Korkosz turned in a strong performance in goal for the Bantams, making a career-high 14 saves on 19 shots on goal.
- Senior Alison Gerber also made a defensive save in the second quarter to help keep Tufts off the scoreboard. Trinity finished with seven shots, including four on goal, while Tufts held a 29-7 advantage in shots and 7-0 edge in penalty corners.
