Tom Szymanski

Tom Szymanski returned to his alma mater as an assistant football coach in the spring of 2017 and begins his fourth autumn coaching the cornerbacks in 2020. A Trinity graduate in 2015 where he enjoyed a storied career on the gridiron as a three-time, All-NESCAC outside linebacker, Szymanski came to Trinity after two seasons as an assistant at John Carroll University in Ohio. In 2018, Szymanski assisted on a defense that allowed 9.8 ppg (3rd nationally) and was second nationally in turnover margin (1.56), helping the Bantams post an 8-1 record and win the NESCAC Championship title. Last fall, he helped the Bantams lead the NESCAC in passing yards allowed at 180.8.  He mentored All-NESCAC First Team CB Dominique Seagears in 2017.

Szymanski coached running backs, served as special teams co-coordinator, and was responsible for offensive quality control at John Carroll. He helped guide the Blue Streaks to an Ohio Athletic Conference Championship and an NCAA Division III Championship Semifinal appearance in 2016. During the summer of 2015, Szymanski was a participant in the Reese’s Senior Bowl Scout School where he worked with NFL scouts to learn the various aspects of scouting and player personnel and development. Szymanski spent the summer of 2019 with the New England Patriots as a defensive intern during training camp. He assisted the defensive coaching staff throughout practice along with a variety of off-field duties.  

Szymanski owns a bachelor’s degree from Trinity in American Studies and a master’s degree from his alma mater in public policy & law. He was the team’s Chad Mooney Defensive MVP in 2014, the David Poulin Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011 and a key member of Trinity’s 2012 NESCAC Championship squad. Szymanski attended Phillips Academy Andover and is a native of Dracut, Mass.
