Middlebury, Vt. - The Amherst College Lord Jeffs will makes
their fourth trip to the NESCAC men's soccer title game after a 1-0
semifinal win over the Trinity College Bantams at Middlebury this
afternoon.
Amherst had a nice chance early in the game, but a header hit
the crossbar. The Jeff threatened again in the 29th minute, but
shots by Nick Lynch and Chris Skayne were denied by Trinity keeper
Zac Trudeau.
The game was knotted at the half, with Amherst controlling the
play with a 10-4 shots advantage. The Jeffs had another opportunity
in the 65th minute, as Lynch's shot from the outside was
knocked away by Trudeau, as G.L. Genco gathered the rebound and
launched a shot just wide.
The Jeffs scored the game-winner with just 4:37 remaining in the
game as James Mooney broke in on the left wing. The rookie shot
from about 20 yards out as the ball was partially blocked by
Trudeau as it got by him and trickled across the line.
Lennard Kovacs made four saves in goal to earn his fourth shutout
of the season, while Trudeau ended the contest with 10 saves.
