New London, Conn. - Senior co-captain forward Karli Del
Rossi (Mantua, New Jersey) scored twice to lead the
visiting Trinity College Bnatams (3-0, 1-0) to a 3-0 blanking of
the Connecticut College Camels(0-2, 0-2) in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this
afternoon at Silfen Field. Trinity improves to 3-0 overall
and 1-0 in the NESCAC and has yet to allow a goal in 210 minutes of
play this fall. The Camels fall to 0-2 overall and in the
league.
Trinity sophomore Robyn Williams (Bulawayo,
Zimbabwe) assisted on both scores, while classmate
Christina Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.) added a
goal. Sophomore netminder Payden Sra (Pewaukee,
Wisc.) had four saves to earn the shutout. Robin Edwards
(Concord, Mass.) had eight saves for the Camels.
Bradley accounted for the only goal of the first half, as
Trinity applied heavy pressure on a penalty corner. Edwards was
able to come up with two stops from point blank range but Bradley
collected the second rebound and deposited a shot inside the left
post for a goal with 13:50 to go. Del Rossi and Williams
connected for the second goal with 28:07 to play. The scoring
tandem hooked up again with 4:58 to play.
With 21 minutes to play, the Camels pressured the Bantams off of
a penalty corner. Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.)
launched one from the center of the scoring circle but Sra was able
to come up with the stop. Meredith Wasserman (Providence,
R.I.) followed with another shot from close range but Sra
was able to get a pad on the ball. Later on in the half with 14:20
to play, Kelly Watkins (San Jose, Calif.) made a
nifty move to break free in front of the net but Sra was able to
collect her rising shot to preserve the 1-0 lead.
