Hartford, Conn. - Junior Sara Plunkett (Barrington,
R.I.) made 29 saves to lead the Williams College Ephs to a
4-0 shutout of the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small
College Athletic Association (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action
this evening at Williams Rink. Trinity falls to 7-5-2 and
4-4-1 in the NESCAC, while Williams improves to 6-8-1 and 4-3-1 in
the league.
It took less than four minutes for Williams senior Joey Lye
(Toronto, Ontario) to net the game-winner after she buried
a slap-shot on a one-timer from freshman Sarah Herr
(Princeton, N.J.), one of Herr's two assists on the
evening. The Ephs added two more goals in the second period
compliments of junior Kait O'Brien (Skaneateles,
N.Y.) and sophomore Mimi McClatchy (Annapolis,
Md.). With less than four minutes remaining in the
final period, Willams added a fourth goal from junior
Tracey Ferriter (Winchester, Mass.), her
team-leading ninth goal and 17th point of the season.
Two of the Williams goals were scored short-handed. Trinity
outshot the Ephs 29-14 on the afternoon. Plunkett stopped all
29 shots that came her way for the shutout, while Trinity junior
goalkeeper Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) made 10
saves for the Bantams. Trinity is now winless in its last
five games.
