Hartford, Conn. - Freshman Katie Herter (Topsfield,
Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Bowdoin College Polar
Bears to a 4-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey
action this evening at Williams Rink. Trinity falls to 12-7-2
overall and 7-5-1 in the NESCAC with the loss, while Bowdoin
improves to 7-10-1 and 5-8-1 in the league, with their fifth
consecutive victory.
Bowdoin senior Samantha Stewart (Lake Oswego,
Oregon) scored 2:31 into the contest to give the Polar
Bears a quick 1-0 lead. In the second, Bowdoin went on a
goal-scoring binge, netting three goals in a four-minute
span. Herter scored two consecutive before sophomore
Michaela Calnan (Melrose, Mass.) added another to
put the Polar Bears up 4-0.
Trinity did not go down easy, as junior Britney McKenna
(Rye, N.H.) answered Calnan's goal a minute later to take
some of the momentum from the Polar Bears and bring the score to
4-1 before the final period of play. Halfway through the
third, sophomore Jill Roloff (West Seneca, N.Y.)
scored a short-handed goal to bring the score to 4-2, but Trinity
ran out of time to finish a comeback.
Freshman goalkeeper Sage Santangelo (Leporte,
Colo.) made 20 saves for Polar Bears while Trinity junior
goalkeeper Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) made 31
saves on the night.
