Hartford, Conn. - Junior midfielder Peter Marlette
(Buffalo, N.Y.) scored the game's only goal in the 65th
minute and sophomore Grant Schonberg (Mendham,
N.J.) made six saves and earned a shutout in goal to lead
the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 win over the visiting Eastern
Connecticut State University Warriors in men's soccer action this
afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in New England, is now
3-0-1, while the Warriors, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 13
in the nation, fall to 5-1-1.
Marlette scored from the upper left corner of the box on a shot
that deflected off an Eastern Connecticut defender and into the
net. Trinity sophomore forward Dan Mayernick
(Gladwyne, Pa.) provided the assist. Eastern
Connecticut sophomore forward Matt Furman (Montville,
Conn.) nearly scored twice, hitting the cross bar from
close range 20 minutes into the contest and the lower left post
from close early in the second half. Warrior sophomore
Carl Appel (West Windsor, N.J.) made six saves in
a losing effort.
