Lewiston, Maine - Sophomore forward Dan Mayernick
(Gladwyne, Pa.) scored the game's only goal in the 96th
minute to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 win
over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon at
Russell Street Field. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in New England,
improves to 4-0-1 and 2-0-1 in the NESCAC, while the Bobcats fall
to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the league.
On the game-winning play, Mayernick took a crossing pass from
junior midfielder Peter Marlette (Buffalo, N.Y.)
near the goal. Mayernick and Bobcat sophomore goalie Greg
Watts (West Chester, Pa.) collided, and
the ball found its way into the net for the game-winner.
Trinity held an 11-9 overall shot advantage in a very evenly
played game. Watts recorded four saves for the Bobcats, while his
counterpart, Bantam sophomore Grant Schonberg (Mendham,
N.J.), turned in three saves.
