Weiss Breaks Goal Record, Trinity Defeats Hamilton In Women's Ice Hockey

Hartford, Conn. – Senior Kim Weiss (Potomac, Md.) scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist as the Trinity College Bantams topped the Hamilton College Continentals 3-1 in New England Small College Athletics Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink.  Trinity improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league, while Hamilton drops to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the league.  Her first goal made Weiss the program's all-time leading goal-scorer with 43 in her career, surpassing Michelle Chee'09's total of 41.

Hamilton was first to strike, as senior Becky Cairns (Andover, Mass.) gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.  With less than two minutes remaining in the period, Weiss knotted the game at one apiece, with her first goal of the afternoon.

After a scoreless second period, the game remained tied until the later stages of the third period, when Weiss netted the game-winning goal on a power play -- her third score in two games -- with 8:33 remaining on the clock.  Shortly after Trinity took their first lead of the game, Hamilton had a power play opportunity, but could not capitalize as the Bantams would put the game out of reach with a short-handed goal, courtesy of first-year Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.).

Trinity first-year goaltender Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) made 20 saves, allowing just one goal in her collegiate debut, while Hamilton sophomore goaltender Rebecca Hazlett (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) made 19 stops for the Continentals.
