Hartford, Conn. – The visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs
won all six singles matches to earn an 8-1 win over the Trinity
College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) men's tennis action this afternoon. Trinity,
ranked No. 5 in the Northeast and No. 18 in the nation, drops to
11-4 overall and 3-3 in the NESCAC with its first loss in six
matches, while the Lord Jeffs, ranked No. 2 in the Northeast and
No. 8 nationally, improves to 21-8 overall and remains perfect in
the league at 7-0.
Trinity senior tri-captain Spencer Feldman (Upper
Brookville, N.Y.) and sophomore Anson McCook
(Miami, Fla.), ranked No. 4 as a tandem in the Northeast,
won, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles against the region's No. 2-ranked
duo, Austin Chafetz and Rob Sorrel. The Bantams nearly took a
2-1 lead after doubles play, when junior David Dessau (New
York, N.Y.) and sophomore Charles McConnell (New
York, N.Y.) served twice for the win at third doubles but
came up short with a 9-7 (7-5) loss. Moritz Keonig earned a
quick singles win at the No. 3 spot to give Amherst a 3-1 lead,
while Chafetz, ranked No. 5 in the Northeast in singles, took care
of No. 6-ranked Feldman, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot. Mark
Kahan, ranked No. 11, downed No. 10-ranked McCook in three sets to
give the Lord Jeffs their fifth point and the victory.
