Hartford, Conn. – Senior
Patrick Jackson (Durham, N.H.) scored the
game-winning goal in the 95th minute of action to lead the Bates
Bobcats to a 2-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's
soccer action this afternoon. The Bantams fall to 2-3 overall
and 0-3 in the league, while the Bobcats improve to 2-2-1 overall
and 1-1-1 in the league.
Bates got the scoring started late in the
first half with a goal from junior David Wood (Contoocook,
N.H.). The Bantams evened the score at 1-1 early in
the second frame after junior forward Dan Mayernick
(Gladwyne, Pa.) buried a shot in the upper left corner of
the net. The teams stayed even through the end of regulation
before Jackson was able to finish the game in the first overtime
period.
Bates junior goalkeeper Greg Watts
(West Chester, Penn.) made ten stops for the win, while
Trinity junior goalkeeper Grant Schonberg (Mendham,
N.J.) stopped 11 shots on the afternoon.
