No. 9-Ranked Bantams Visit No. 6-Ranked Middlebury Tomorrow Afternoon
Williamstown, Mass. - Senior forward Jill Roloff (West Seneca, N.Y.) scored the game's only goal with just five second on the clock in the third period to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 victory over the Williams College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening. Trinity, ranked No. 9 in the nation, improves to 8-1-1 with its fifth consecutive win and extends its unbeaten streak to six games, while the Ephs fall to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the league with their sixth defeat in a row. The victory sets up a key league matchup tomorrow afternoon when the Bantams visit No. 6-ranked Middlebury, which is in first place in the NESCAC with a 6-0 conference mark (7-2 overall).
The opening two frames ended scoreless, despite good opportunities for both sides. Freshman goalies Rachel Nguyen and Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) backboned Williams and Trinity respectively, turning away a combined 35 shots in the opening 40 minutes. On one close chance, Bantam freshman forward Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.) stole the puck and carried it up the right side for a one-on-one opportunity, but was denied by Nguyen. With the game seconds from overtime, Roloff took a pass from sophomore blueliner Rebecca Rosen (Syosset, N.Y.). From the low slot and through traffic, Roloff wristed a high shot just beyond the reach of Nguyen. Maxwell earnhed her second shutout in a row with 26 saves Nguyen notched 35 saves.
