Box Score Middlebury, Vt. – The visiting Trinity College Bantams outdueled the Middlebury College Panthers with a 1-0 win in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon. Trinity improves to 6-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the NESCAC while snapping a three-game losing skid. Middlebury saw its six-game unbeaten streak come to an end as they fall to 5-3-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the league.
The game's lone goal came just 4:35 in, when Bantam senior captain forward Dan Mayernick (Gladwyne. Pa.) found himself some space on the right side and drove to the goal, beating Panther keeper Tim Cahill with a shot to the back of the net. Middlebury threatened in the 13th minute with a free kick, but Tyler Smith's header went just wide after service from Robbie Redmond. The Panther's best scoring opportunity came in the 82nd minute, when Brazier fed Redmond before his shot was stopped by a diving save from Bantam senior captain goalie Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) who finished with six saves. Schonberg's shutout was his fifth of the season and the 17th of his career, tying him with Tom Hambrick-Stowe as the College's all-time leader.
