Bantam Keeper Schonberg Sets Career Shutout Mark

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams snapped a 13-game losing streak against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears with a 2-0 victory in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon.  Trinity, ranked No. 9 in New England, improves to 7-4-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the NESCAC with its second win in a row and its first triumph against Bowdoin since a 2-1 win in Hartford on October 23, 1999.  Bowdoin falls to 4-6-3 overall and 1-6-2 in the league with its second defeat in a row, while extending its winless streak to five games.  The loss also eliminates the Polar Bears from post-season contention.

 Trinity senior captain forward Dan Mayernick (Gladwyne, Pa.) scored from junior midfielder Anthony El-Hachem (Vernon, Conn.) in the 19th minute and sophomore forward Julian Gocksch (Centerport, N.Y.) added a Bantam insurance goal in the 49th minute from sophomore back Shaun McGann (West Hartford, Conn.).  The teams each took 11 shots, as Trinity senior captain goalkeeper Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) made six saves to record his second shutout in a row, his sixth shutout of the fall, and his 18th career shutout which gives him the College's all-time shutout record.  Schonberg's breaks the previous mark held by Tom Hambrick-Stowe'01.  Bowdoin sophomore goalie Will Wise (Cohasset, Mass.) did not make a save.
