Hartford, Conn. – Junior Nirasha Guruge (Colombo, Sri Lanka), ranked No. 7 nationally, defeated No. 2-ranked Pamela Hathway (Munich, Germany) to lead the Harvard University Crimson to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in women's squash action this evening at Muir Courts. Trinity, ranked No. 3 in the nation, improves to drops to 12-2 and has its winning streak stopped at six, while the top-ranked Crimson improves to 9-0.
Trinity led early, 2-1, thanks to a 3-2 win by No. 14-ranked rookie Jennifer Pelletier (Richmond Hill, Ontario) over No. 13-ranked Harvard senior captain Alisha Mashruwala (Mumbai, India) in the No. 3 match and a 3-1 triumph by Bantam senior tri-captain Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) against Crimson senior Alexandra Zindman (Belle Mead, N.J.) in the No. 9 match. Harvard rattled off wins in the final six matches to race to the victory, including a 3-1 win by top-ranked sophomore Lauren Gemmell (Toronto, Ontario) over Trinity freshman Catalina Pelaez (Bogota, Colombia), ranked No. 8 in the nation, in the No. 1 match.
