Medford, Mass. – The Tufts University Jumbos defeated the visiting Trinity College Bantams, 5-3, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's tennis action this evening.  Trinity, ranked No. 4 in the Northeast and No. 15 in the nation, falls to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the NESCAC with its first loss in four matches, while the Jumbos jump to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the league. 
Freshman Austin Blau (East Hills, N.Y.) won the third set in the No. 5 singles match, 6-1, to defeat Trinity junior Charles McConnell (New York, N.Y.) and clinch the victory.  The Jumbos got out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play.  In singles play, Tufts had wins at No. 3 by sophomore Ben Barad (San Rafael, Calif.) and at No. 4 by freshman Pat Monaghan to put them on the brink of the victory. Trinity had wins at the top spot by junior Anson McCook (Miami, Fla.) and at No. 2 by senior tri-captain Rich Bonfiglio (Bronxville, N.Y.) and it was 4-3 with No. 5 and No. 6 singles remaining. McConnell won his first set at No. 5, 6-3, but lost, 7-5, and, 6-1, to end the match in Tufts' favor.
