Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore forward Julian Gocksch (Centerport, N.Y.) scored the game's only two goals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-0 win over the visiting Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon. Trinity improves to 1-1-2 overall and remains unbeaten in the NESCAC at 1-0-2, while the Bobcats drop to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the league.
After a scoreless opening half that saw Trinity hold a 10-2 edge shooting and attempt all four of the corner kicks before the break, Gocksch scored the only goal Trinity needed from classmate Graham Goldstein (Mill Valley, Calif.) 2:02 after intermission. Goldstein launched a perfect right-footed volley off a corner kick to set up Gocksch for clincher. Trinity senior captain forward Dan Mayernick (Gladwyne, Pa.) provided the assist on Gocksch's insurance tally in the 82nd minute, while the Bantam defense continued its strong play with just four shots allowed in the second half. Bates senior co-captain goalkeeper Greg Watts (West Chester, Pa.) finished with four saves, while Bantam senor captain Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) earned a shutout with three stops.
