Hartford, Conn. –  Senior captain forward Daniel Mayernick (Gladwyne, Pa.) scored both of his team's goals, including the game-winner in the 68th minute, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 win over the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in men's soccer action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 2-1-2 with its second victory in a row and its fourth consecutive triumph over the Warriors.  Eastern Connecticut falls to 4-2-1 with its first loss in five games.   

Mayernick got Trinity on the board early with a goal from senior forward Chris Binnie (Kingston, Jamaica) 7:33 into the game, and sophomore Wesley Simon (New Hope, Pa.) nearly scored again for the Bantams shortly afterwards when his shot from point-blank range was stopped by Warrior senior tri-captain goalie Carl Appel (West Windsor, N.J.). In the 23rd minute, a Trinity foul in the box on Warrior senior tri-captain forward Matt Esposito (Oakwood, Conn.) gave Eastern Connecticut a penalty kick, which Esposito buried high and over the shoulder of Bantam senior captain goalie Grant Schonberg (Mendham, N.J.) to tie the game.  Trinity junior midfielder Anthony El-Hachem (Vernon, Conn.) nearly gave Trinity back the lead with 2:38 left before the break when his shot from the left corner of the box sailed just over the cross bar.

Mayernick converted on the clinching goal thanks to passes by El-Hachem and sophomore midfielder midfielder Trevor Doolittle (Milford, Conn.).  Schonberg came up with clutch saves in the 72nd minute and the 87th minute to preserve the win, finishing with three stops overall.  Appel had seven saves for the Warriors.
