Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Pujol
(New Canaan, Conn.) earned a shutout with 25 saves to lead
the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-0 win over the Hamilton College
Continentals in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this afternoon on Williams
Rink at the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity improves
to 8-7 overall and evens its NESCAC mark at 4-4 with their
fifth straight win, while the Continentals drop to 6-8 overall, and
3-5 in the league. Trinity, which downed Hamilton, 3-1, last
night in Hartford, sweeps the two-game series while also jumping
over the .500 mark for the first time since a 1-0 start to the
year. Trinity has climbed back from a 1-6 start with a 7-1 record
over its last eight games.
Trinity sophomore defender Sarah Duncan (Dedham,
Mass.) scored the first goal of the game, beating Hamilton
junior goalie Rebecca Hazlett (Grosse Pointe Park,
Mich.) on a one-on-one over the backstop's left
shoulder 4:44 into the game. Shortly following a Continental
penalty, Bantam senior tri-captain blueliner Dominique Di
Dia (Los Angeles, Calif.) converted on an assist by junior
defender Britney Ryan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) to
give Trinity a 2-0 lead with 2:03 left before the first break.
The defenses were both stingy in a scoreless second period, and
Pujol stopped the closest scoring chance when she stymied Hamilton
sophomore forward Nikki Haskins (Quincy, Mass.) on
a breakaway with 2:20 on the clock. Trinity sophomore
Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) hit iron from the
left wing 12:27 into the third frame, before classmate
Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.) poked in a shot
from close for a Bantam insurance goal midway through the
third. Hazlett totaled 24 saves for the Continentals.
