Middlebury Edges Trinity Men's Soccer in NESCAC Action

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. –  Senior goalkeeper Zach Abdu-Glass (Lexington, Mass.) made nine saves to lead the Middlebury College Panthers to a 2-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action today on Campus Field.  Trinity falls to 5-3-3 on the year and 3-3-2 in the league, and Middlebury improves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the NESCAC.

Sophomore Harper Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) opened up the scoring midway through the first half with a 25-yard right-footed strike that beat Trinity goalkeeper Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.). Katz had five saves in the game. Williams let a pass in the midfield cross his body before hitting it top shelf to break the scoreless draw with 18:57 left in the half.

Trinity gained back the momentum early on in the second half when senior captain Anthony El-Hachem (Vernon, Conn.) connected on a close shot after a fed from junior John El-Hachem (Vernon, Conn.) to tie the game at 1-1. El-Hachem's tidy finish marked his team-leading third goal of the year. Middlebury responded less than 10 minutes later when senior tri-captain Alvand Hajizadeh (Williamstown, Mass.) put the Panthers back ahead. Hajizadeh followed up on a rebounded shot from teammate Ethan Galiette (Avon, Conn.) inside the six-yard box to put the Panthers on top. The goal would prove to be the game winner. Trinity fought back late in the second half, coming close to an equalizer when sophomore forward Timothy Shea (Somerset, Mass.) hit the post with 8:40 left.
