Bantams Face Princeton in Third/Fourths Tomorrow

Boston, Mass. - The No. 1-ranked Harvard University Crimson defeated the No. 5-ranked Trinity College Bantams, 9-0, in the College Squash Association (CSA) National Championship (Howe Cup) Semifinals this afternoon at Harvard University's Brady Courts. The Bantams will face Princeton in the No. 3 match tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., at Harvard.  The Crimson will face Yale in the Howe Cup Final at the same time tomorrow. Harvard remains undefeated this season with a perfect 16-0 record, while Trinity falls to 16-4 on the year.  

"We played a good match against a very strong team," Head Coach Wendy Bartlett said.  "We're looking forward to what should be a good one against Princeton tomorrow."

Harvard jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with wins by Nirasha Guruge and Natasha Kingshott in the No. 3 and No. 6 spots.  Trinity first-year Chanel Erasmus (Capetown, South Africa) led Megan Murray, 2-1, in the No. 9 spot before Murray came back to win two well-contested battles, 13-11 and 11-9, to take the set, 3-2, and give the Crimson a 3-0 overall lead.  Laura Gemmel and Cece Cortez took wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots, which clinched Harvard's spot in the National Championship Final.  Senior Pamela Larromana (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico) also turned in a strong performance for Trinity, playing Julianne Chu to a 2-2 score in the No. 8 match, before Chu took the final game, 11-8.

Ten of Harvard's 16 wins this season were by scores of 9-0, including today's match.  Trinity fell to Harvard earlier in the year, 8-1.
