Bennington, Vt. - The No. 6-seeded Trinity College Bantams fell,
5-0, against the No. 3-seeded Bowdoin College Polar
Bears in the opening round of the New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Tennis Championship Tournament
played indoors this afternoon at the Bennington Tennis
Center. Bowdoin, ranked No. 10 in the nation, improves
to 12-6, while No. 24-ranked Trinity's season falls to 9-8.
Bowdoin won the No. 1 (8-6) and No. 3 (8-4)
doubles matches and the Polar Bears' second duo of Doug Caplan and
Kyle Wolstoncroft edged the Bantams' pairing of senior tri-captain
Charles McConnell (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Kayong Lee
(Villanova, Pa.) 9-8 to put Bowdoin in command of the match.
The fourth Bowdoin point on the day came from Casey Grindon at #4
singles, where he downed McConnell 6-1, 6-1. The Polar Bears'
Samuel King delivered the deciding fifth point when he defeated Lee
in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 at #2 singles.
