Trinity Men's Soccer Beaten At Home By Williams

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – Freshman forward Muhammed Rashid Accra, Ghana) had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Williams College Ephs to a 3-1 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon.  Trinity, ranked No. 6 in New England, drops to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NESCAC, while the Ephs, ranked No. 7 in New England, improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.

"Both teams had some good chances," said Trinity Head Coach Mike Pilger. "They finished and we didn't.  They guarded their men in the box better than we did. We had plenty of the play in the second half but we waited until we were down, 2-1, to play with the energy you need to play with against a team like Williams."

The game got off to a fast start, as Rashid fed senior co-captain back Matt Ratajczak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) on the first marker just 1:29 into the contest, and Trinity junior forward Christian Carrasquillo (Manchester, Conn.) found sophomore back Kyle Johnston (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) 4:03 into the game to tie the score at 1-1.  In the 19th minute, Williams sophomore midfielder Matt Muralles (Weston, Fla.) gave the visitors a 2-1 lead, converting on a pass by senior co-captain Peter Christman (Falmouth, Mass.).

With just under 30 minutes remaining in the game, Bantam junior forward John El-Hachem (Vernon, Conn.) found himself with a one-on-one against Eph senior goalkeeper Thad Finan (Williamstown, Mass.) on the right wing inside the box and sent a short pass across but nobody was home.  In the 82nd minute on a Williams corner kick, Rashid gave the Ephs an insurance goal when he popped in a rebound after the initial Williams shot caromed off the cross bar.

Williams finished with slight 11-9 edge on shots, as Bantam sophomore Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.) finished with four saves, and Finan made six stops.  Williams committed 22 fouls, and Trinity just four.
