Pujol Gives Stellar Performance In Bantam Net With 38 Saves

Clinton, N.Y. - Junior forward Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) scored with 41.4 seconds remaining in overtime as the visiting Trinity College Bantams shut out the Hamilton College Continentals, 1-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) game at Russell Sage Rink this evening.  Trinity improves to 7-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the NESCAC with its fourth consecutive victory, while the Continentals drop to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the league.  The Bantams are 13-0-1 in their last 14 games against Hamilton.  The teams tangle again tomorrow in Clinton at 3 p.m. to complete the two-game set

The play started when Trinity fired a shot from the right face-off circle. First-year forward Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.) collected the long rebound inside the left fac-eoff circle and slid a pass to a wide open Ostrom in front of the net for the goal.  Trinity junior Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) stopped all 38 shots she faced for her second shutout of the year.  Rookie backstop Becca Hazlettmade 29 saves for the Continentals.

Hamilton controlled the puck for most of the first period, totaling 15 shots to just three for the Bantams. The Continentals also had three power-play opportunities, but couldn't capitalize as the opening frame ended in a scoreless tie.  Play was even in the second period, but neither team could crack the scoreboard. Trinity had the best chances to score, but Hazlett made the stops. After a hard Bantam shot from the wing, Trinity sophomore forward Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) gathered a rebound and put a shot on goal, but Hazlett turned the shot away again. While on the line change, Trinity got loose for a 3-on-1, but the shot sailed wide and no damage was done.

The Bantams went on the power play for the rest of the period with 1:53 remaining, but Hamilton killed its second penalty of the period to force overtime.  In the extra session, Hamilton got two good looks early on, but still couldn't find the back of the net. Just 26 seconds in, Abby Runyon had an open look from the right faceoff circle, but was denied by Pujol. Hannah Jaiven sent a shot in from the blue line just seconds later, but was turned away as well.  The Continentals edged the Bantams in shots 38-30 and both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
