Box Score New London, Conn. - Junior defender Sophie Doering (Darien,
Conn.) had a goal and an assist to help lead the visiting Trinity
College field hockey team to a 4-1 victory at Connecticut College
this afternoon. The Bantams improve their record to 8-5 with
a 5-4 mark in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) play, while the Camels fall to 3-10 with a 1-8 mark in
league contests.
Sophomore forward Olivia Tapsall (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and
rookie Samantha Sandler (Madison, Conn.) supplied first half goals
for the visitors. Connecticut College opened the scoring in
the 18th minute of action. Senior Laura Sanderson (Hanover,
N.H.) scored her 11th collegiate goal with the assist coming from
Jillian Dahrooge (Charlton, Mass.). Tapsall scored the
equalizer with 14:26 remaining in the half. With 11:10 to play in
the half, Sandler buried a penalty stroke to put the visitors on
top for good with a 2-1 advantage. Sandler's game-clinching
goal was the first shot of any kind in her collegiate career.
Trinity sophomore Elizabeth Caporale (Glastonbury, Conn.) added
an insurance goal seven minutes into the second half with Doering
assisted. With 12 minutes left, Doering closed out the scoring with
her second score of the season. Sophomore Sophie Fitzpatrick
(Duxbury, Mass.) stopped one shot in goal for the Bantams. Becca
Napolitano (Hamden, Conn.) finished with 11 saves for the
hosts. Trinity out-shot the Camels 16-to-6 in the contest
while holding a 9-to-3 edge in penalty corners.
