Trinity Women's Ice Hockey Earns Playoff Home Game With Shutout Of Wesleyan

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – Senior captain forward Chelsea Campbell (Surrey, British Columbia) broke a scoreless tie late in the first period and added an assist later in the game to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity stops a two-game skid, improves to 12-7-4 overall and 7-5-3 in the NESCAC, and clinches a home game in next weekend's NESCAC Championship Quarterfinals with one regular-season game remaining tomorrow at Wesleyan. The Cardinals drop to 6-16 overall and 2-13 in the league with their 12th loss in a row against the Bantams.

Watch rookies Brooke Heron and Shannon Farrell connect on a goal

Neither offense generating much in the early going before Campbell received a pass near center ice through traffic from senior blueliner Rebecca Rosen (Syosset, N.Y.) and brought the puck the rest of the way against Wesleyan senior backstop Ashleigh Corvi (Barrington, R.I.).  Corvi stopped Campbell's initial bid but she poked the rebound through for a 1-0 Trinity lead 15:36 into the game.  Junior defender Sarah Duncan (Dedham, Mass.) gave Trinity a two-goal cushion on a power play at 10:58 of the second stanza, but Corvi kept the visitors in the game with one-on-one denials of Campbell and Bantam sophomore forward Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) in the next six minutes.

The Bantams broke through for a third goal on a late redirect by rookie Shannon Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine) just in front of Corvi's stick after an initial shot from above the left face-off circle by rookie forward Brooke Heron (South Salem, N.Y.).  Campbell also assisted on the play.  Robinson rounded out the scoring with a tally at 7:32 of the third period, and Trinity junior goalie Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) needed just 13 saves to record her fourth shutout of the year.  Corvi totaled 32 saves, as the Bantams outshot the Cardinals, 36-13, to overcome seven penalties for 14 minutes.  Trinity killed off six Cardinal power plays, and scored on one of its two extra-skater situations.
