Trinity moves to 6-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the NESCAC, while Bates is now 1-2-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the league. No. 15-ranked Trinity visits No. 23-ranked Tufts in a NESCAC battle tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Medford, Mass.
Bobcat sophomore goalkeeper Joe Maffly-Kipp (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made five saves to record his first shutout of the season while rookie Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) and junior Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.) combined for the Trinity clean sheet with one and four saves, respectively. Trinity outshot Bates, 19-13, and each side placed just five shots on goal. The visitors held a 6-3 advantage in shots in the overtime periods forcing Maffly-Kipp to make three saves over the match's final 20 minutes.
The Bantams gained one of their best scoring opportunities in the 35th minute as senior forward Will Stankiewicz (Townsend, Mass.) fired a shot just over the bar after a Bobcat turnover. The visitors registered the only three shots in the first extra session and put two of their three shots on frame in the ensuing stanza.The Bobcats threatened to score in the second overtime period as a shot from junior Nick Ford (Columbus, Ohio) sailed just over the crossbar in the 102nd minute. Bates almost broke through in the second half as well as a header from senior Ethan Kass (New York, N.Y.) similarly traveled above the woodwork.
