Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College volleyball team ended the 2014 regular season with a 3-0 victory against visiting Bates in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day inside Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams won their second straight game to improve to 13-10 overall and 4-6 in league play, while the Bobcats ended the year with a 9-16 record and an 0-10 mark in conference tilts. Trinity will enter the upcoming NESCAC Championship Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will travel to square off with top-seeded Tufts in the opening round.

The Bantams won by a score of 25-22, 25-23, 25-21 to top Bates for the sixth consecutive contest. Trinity had 36 kills, 30 digs and seven aces, while the Bobcats had 30 kills, 51 digs and six aces. Each game was tightly contested as neither team led by more than five throughout.

Junior tri-captain Kate Giddens (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) paced the Trinity attack with a match-high 15 kills and a pair of aces. Junior Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added nine kills and junior middle hitter Katie Stueber (Darien, Conn.) registered five kills. The setting duo of junior Gina Buzzelli (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore Randi Whitham (South Weymouth, Mass.) did a good job distributing the ball, combining for 32 assists. Buzzelli recorded a match-best 18 and Whitham added 14 of her own.

Offensively, Bates was led by sophomore outside hitter Chandler McGrath with 10 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Gabby O'Leary and junior outside hitter Brynn Wendel each added five kills apiece. Setter Tess Walther added 10 assists for the Bobcats.

On the defensive end, Bates defensive specialist Laryssa Schepel had a match-leading 12 digs and sophomore middle hitter Nicole Peraica added four blocks. For the Bantams, Giddens had eight digs and Stueber had two blocks.
