Claremont, Calif. - Junior Ilya Levin (Wellesley, Mass.) and
sophomore Ford Traff (Wayzaya, Minn.) both won in singles and
doubles to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-3 victory over
the Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) men's tennis action this afternoon at
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. Trinity improves to 5-3 overall and
1-1 in the NESCAC with its second win in as many days, while Tufts,
ranked No. 10 in the Northeast Region, drops to 4-2 overall and 0-1
in the league.
Trinity won two of three doubles matches that all ended with
lopsided final scores, while junior tri-captain Dan Carpenter
(Wayzata, Minn.) highligted singles play with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the
top spot in the lineup over No. 25-ranked Nik Telkedzhiev.
Junior Ned Mandel (Chevy Chase, Md.) also won in straight sets in
singles for the Bantams, while Traff needed an 8-6 tiebreaker to
edge Zach Ladwig in the No. 5 singles match, 7-6, 6-1, and Levin
won the first and third sets in dominant fashion, 6-1, and, 6-2,
sandwiched around a 6-2 setback in the second set.
