Medford, Mass. – The visiting Trinity College Bantams lost a 5-4 heartbreaker against the Tufts University Jumbos, 5-4, on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's tennis action at Voute Courts. With the win, No. 18 in the nation Tufts improves to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in league play. Trinity, No. 15 in the most recent rankings, drops to 8-6 on the season and 2-4 in conference tilts.

The Jumbos started strong with an 8-1 win in #2 doubles by Alexa Meltzer and Samantha Gann. Trinity evened the team score at 1-1 as Morgan Feldman (Upper Bookville, N.Y.) and Melita Ferjanic (Samobor, Croatia) won 8-2 at the top doubles spot. The decisive third doubles match went extra and Tufts scored the valuable point with a 9-7 victory by Conner Calabro and Chelsea Hayashi. That win gave the Jumbos a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

In singles action, the two squads split the six matches as the host Jumbos escaped with the victory.  At No. 2 singles, Feldman kept the Bantams alive with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. However, Jacqueline Baum clinched it for Tufts with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles spot which gave Tufts a 5-2 lead.

Trinity closed out play with wins by Senzo Mavune-Maphisa (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe ) at No. 3 and by Ferjanic at No. 1, but the Jumbos had gained the advantage between the two teams vying for one of the six spots in the upcoming conference championship tournament.
